GENERAL INFORMATION

     The West Milford Office of Emergency is located in the West Milford Township Complex on Edgar Drive and is coordinated by Emergency Management Coordinator Michael K. Woch.

    The office is the central point of coordination within the 80 square miles of West Milford Township for response and recovery to disasters. The primary focus of the agency when not in a response or recovery mode is to ensure that the Township, and the approximately 25,430 citizens residing in it, are prepared to respond to an emergency or disaster and to lead mitigation efforts against the effects of future disasters. 

    Effective emergency management systems are a tiered effort. When an emergency exceeds the capacity of local government, assistance may be requested of the County or State EMA's. If an emergency response exceeds the capacity of the Local, County or State Emergency Management Agency's, aid is requested from the President through the Federal Emergency Management Agency. To ensure preparedness and the capability to respond at all levels, it is critical that local agencies interface regularly with their County, State and Federal counterparts. This is achieved by conducting regular "drills" and "table tops" to ascertain responses and possible weaknesses in
communications and task force.
